Gaming is not addicting. Thats just people trying to pass the blame on so its not them who has the problem. People have a hard time telling the differenece between addiction and obsession.

That game is called the blame game!!! It is very popular amongst the parents that are just massive failures. You gotta blame somebody for your kids lack of proper education.

[citation][nom]delbunk[/nom]Yet they don't complain about television? They just want something to whine about, and to make money off of "video game addicts". What about stamp collecting addicts or football playing addicts? Computer gaming is just a hobby. With this type of thinking, anything someone does every day could be considered addicting. Ridiculous. Why don't they worry about drugs and mental problems instead.[/citation]

Oh they complained when it was the latest thing out. It has happened to tv, music, video games, all forms of entertainment. It would probably happen to opera if it had mass appeal.

I would not term it an addiction. I would certainly not compare it to Cocaine which may start out as a behavioral disorder and ends up becoming a chemical dependency. People who may have shutdown all other aspects of their life in favor of playing video games have a behavioral disorder. Much like someone with Type II diabetes who cannot control their diet or a person termed as a "Sex Addict" who eschews his/her family/mate in favor of promiscuous opportunities with strangers in order to find some meager satisfaction outside of the relationship rather than deal with the relationship itself. It is simply a behavioral issue with some people who choose to ignore every other aspect of their life and deal with their problems in favor of seeking out an escapist route to avoid dealing with issues.

That being said, this therapist is a fool.

Lets see here. I've never missed a meal due to video games, though when I was in school I regularly missed meals and gone days without sleep due to school work. Now that I'm older and wiser it's not uncommon for me to miss meals and sleep due to getting into a marathon coding session at work. It's quite common that I miss meals because of mountain biking. I guess I'm addicted to work, mountain biking and home improvement.

Gaming is addicting, not games like MW2...games like World of nerdcraft where people sit for days walking around missing real life (gf\bang bang\hang out\drugs) but I guess most wow players never qualified for (gf\bang bang) eh?

world of nerdcraft? i guess computer geeks are bagging our own kind now.....MW2 and WOW have that same users, i play both...i have a g/f, many good friends and a life away from gaming. How can we expect the non-gaming world to stop giving us a hard time about our hobbies when our own fellow gamers do the same. Mancream you and the Therapist are the same person.

Let's break his analogy down into parts:

Snorting requires:

-a crisp dollar bill rolled up

-a razor

-cool temperatures to preserve the goods

-a tissue or nasal spray to clear up your nasal cavities

Gaming requires:

-many dollars bills(you can fold or roll the bills if you like)

-a razor; c'mon you need to shave even if you are a hermit

-cooler temperatures to preserve the goods(applies to gaming PCs, and consoles)

....+1 gaming! So he is wrong after all!
