Tivo to Cable

I have a lifetime subscrition to Tivo, and am using a stand alone and a directv for viewing, but I will be moving soon
and switching from Directv to Cable and am wondering if either one of these sets will be useable with cable ? I will be
getting a new phone number as well, so would I be able to just inform Tivo of the number change and not call in for the
guide updates and have my lifetime subscription kept intact?

Thanks in advance.

You indicate you are using a standalone Tivo, not an integrated
Directivo. Assuming that's true, you should have no problem at all,
just run through setup and tell the Tivo you are using cable now
instead. Changing *your* phone number doesn't matter, it's the number
that the Tivo calls that's important, so if you aren't moving it
shouldn't require any change. If you *are* moving, then it does require
a change, but the rerun through setup should update it correctly.

Randy,

Thanks for your response. I have two, one a standalone, and, one Directivo box. I am moving to a new location, so I will
have to call Tivo and let them know about this so I can use the box just to record.

you shouldn't have to call tivo, just repeat your guided setup with the new
information. Whether you can use the directv branded tivo, that I do not
know, but the standalone should be simple relatively speaking to set up

The standalone TiVo will be usable with cable; you'll simply have to repeat
Guided Setup and tell your DVR about your new lineup and programming
source.

The DirecTV TiVo will _not_ be usable without DirecTV service. At all.
Except as a doorstop, possibly even as a boat anchor.

I watch too much TV, but no one cares except my wife.

The directivo will not be functional, it can only record and playback
Directv Satellite signals. However john is right, there is no reason to
call Tivo about the SA unit, simply rerunning guided setup should set
you up.
