So I'm concerned with the potential for ads to infect my pc with malware. Ive never used an ad blocker and I'm pretty careful about my internet browsing, that means no shady sites or the usual things that you would need to worry about. I have though read reports of ads on youtube actually infecting computers with malware. Whether that's true or not I have no idea. But that brings me to my point which is that so many sites now are filled with ads and how do we know what they are doing? Can they infect my pc if I don't click on them? I do have an antivirus which is avg and its awesome, its kept my pc in tip top shape. So should I take the extra step and get an ad blocker?
You should always block ads in order to stay safe. They do sometimes carry backdoors along with them. Also something like Malwarebytes should keep you safer without conflicting with your AV.
Adblockers are free and should not be difficult to install.
Yes you should. I would recommend uBlock Origin. Just be sure to whitelist sites you trust as they live on the ad revenue. That is as simple as just clicking ublock's 'power button' on a website you trust
