Today's 4th guess was "BAWDY" (according to the image spelt G-A-U-D-Y), and despite that ruling out G/U/D, "GAUZY" remained a possible answer?? 🤔

If I had to guess, I would say he's playing in "Incognito" mode, which would allow him to make multiple attempts without ruining his streak. He probably lost track of which words he had attempted in his "official" game...

why do you never check to see how many wordle possibilities RAISE leaves after using it as a start word?? Is it because Kelly used it as her start word
Likewise, Marc McClaren's and my favourite "STARE" rarely gets a mention...

Re #718 "HATER":
A 3 for me today, by a cunning route ...

Started as always with STARE. Good result - 4 yellows, but recognising from previous experience that *ATER pattern...
So largely ignoring the letters found and instead went looking for the missing 5th letter with WHEEL (risking the double E gave two chances to lock in it's position and also ruled out EATER.)
With that confirming H as the missing letter and a single E in 4th, only HATER fitted.

P.s. which of R & T has been reclassified as a vowel 🤔

Today's answer (the 9th of June) is another word that wasn't on the original Solution list. This makes three new words that I'm aware of: GUANO, SNAFU and today's solution.

Personally, I'm glad to see this; it makes the game more interesting. There were some very arbitrary choices on that list (CORER and PARER are included but PRIMP and SHRED are not. Seriously??).

Also, now that we are 720 games in, that old list is getting noticeably shorter than it was when the game was launched. But it does mean that the analysis of letter frequencies used by this website is no longer current.

Who knows, maybe in a couple of years we will be seeing solutions like ZYLCH, or XYZZY...

And today, STARE left only 3 options (better than any of those quoted) - STRAP/STRAW/STRAY; yet doesn't even get a mention...

I solved it in 3 for what it's worth... STARE / WIMPY (proved which of W/P/Y) / STRAP...

Good solve, PLD, congratulations!

For what it's worth, this forum sends me an automated email whenever there's a new post in this thread; I imagine others get that as well.

That means there's a risk of a spoiler, if someone sees the email before they've played the game that day.

May I suggest we all avoid revealing the current solution in our posts, just in case? I know I've been guilty of that myself, and I apologise if I have spoiled anyone's game!

I'm sorry man, but playing the exact same word, day after day, is a really dumb strategy for Wordle.

Have fun. Mix it up. No telling what might happen. I never play the same word twice in a row.

One day I couldn't think of a start word and just typed in 'Shrug' as a goof, and unbelievably nailed it on the first turn.

Think outside the Ratio box, man. Using the same stale word day after day would bore me to tears.

From the 19th of June:
"To put it into perspective, this is one of only 20 Wordle answers that begins with K."

Wow.

Yes, there are 20 words on the list that begin with "K", but KAZOO is not one of them!

This is yet another word that wasn't on the original list. I think we can safely say that the old list is now completely obsolete.

I'm just trying to figure out how you counted the 20 words on the list without noticing that KAZOO wasn't there.

22nd June:
"Today's Wordle answer is a little trickier than yesterday's, but still shouldn't cause experienced players many problems."

Wrong.

Today's answer is currently showing a 14% failure rate (which is very, very high). If you lock the final four letters in place, there are at least half a dozen possibilities for the first letter. And if you're playing in Hard Mode, all you can do is try them, one by one. And cross your fingers.

Today's hints were wrong.

  • It contains one of the five vowels.*
  • There is one repeated letter.
  • Said repeated letter is amongst the five most common Wordle letters.

SPOILER: It had 2 vowels and no repeated letters

Wordle clues for June 29 were inaccurate
  • It contains one of the five vowels.*
  • There is one repeated letter.
Both of these clues were incorrect

And just like a fortnight ago, a previous writers preferred stating word out performs any of those quoted but is (deliberately?) overlooked ...

STARE with 2 green and 2 yellow letters left only three options STRAP/STRAW/STRAY, and remembering that STRAP had been the answer recently, that made it effectively a 50/50.
(yep - I went for the wrong one first 🙄 but hey, we'll remember that for next time... hopefully....)

"...experienced players should get it reasonably quickly as long as they pick one of the best Wordle start words."

Today's answer is one of the best Wordle start words. This is a very popular starting word, and an awful lot of people are going to be getting a hole-in-one today.

My own preferred choice left me (officially) with two options today, but the other is an extremely obscure word. I would be very surprised if anyone actually tried it.

More surprisingly, the stats are currently showing a 5% failure rate.

What's lucky for some is obviously very unlucky for others...

Come here for the solution, but don't stick around for this guy's description of how he solved it.

Using the exact same start word (Ratio) day after day, over and over and over? Not only is that dumb and boring, it's lazy. Mix it up.

We come here for useful, constructive discussion on tactics to solve the puzzle in the most efficient way...

You have your preferred approach, others have a different approach - both equally valid - they will respect yours if you respect theirs...

How about you post your path to the answer for a few days and let's compare and contrast outcomes 😉

Why are the dates wrong so often...?

Someone has put 19th July as yesterday's day.. Tuesday. When that happens I always think today's clues have not been done yet.

July 19th us a WEDNESDAY

I beat this guy's solutions more often than not, and consistently. How? By mixing up my start words every single day.

Is there anyone seriously coming here for Wordle advice from this guy? Here, I'll save you from scrolling past the solution, which is why 99.9% come here in the first place:

Play the word 'Ratio' 500 days in a row. Wow. Isn't that an exciting strategy?

So please post your solutions for the next week to demonstrate. If you can show a faster solution at least 4/7 you will prove your point ..

Today's Wordle solution (BULLY) is a perfect example of why you should not use the same dull start word (Ratio) over and over again, every single day.

That's no strategy. It's a boring and lazy approach. You need to be as random as the puzzle can be, every day.

I played 'BALMY' as per my completely random start word every morning, and solved this bad boy on the second guess.

What does 'Ratio' get ya on the first try today? Zip zilch nada. Because playing the same word every single day is a dull, pointless and ineffective strategy.

Nobody comes here to read about how you solved today's Wordle, because you've been using the same exact start word every day for two years straight.

Mix it up and be original. Sounds stupid, doesn't it?

It works.
