Sat 29/6:
No mention again of original writer Marc McLaren favourite starter, and mine and still 3rd most popular overall according to the Bot...
Today STARE left only two options OPERA or ZEBRA. And of course I tried the wrong one first...

Today's Wordle is a reminder to not follow this guy's advice on how to play, and just stop reading after the hints.

It's stupid to start with the same word, day after day. You're at a disadvantage from the get-go.

Using letters based on popularity is also dumb, because how'd that work out for you today?

Mix it up. Be as random as the game can be, because if you pigeonhole yourself with a single word because of flawed 'popularity' logic, eventually you'll fail. Just like this guy today.

Instead of relying on hints to help you solve it, try relying just on your brain. It's more challenging that way. And also, when he occasionally makes a mistake with the hints, it won't affect your guesses if you don't view the hints first.

Using the same start word every day is boring, but most of the answers have at least one of the five most common letters in it so it's not a bad strategy most of the time to start with orate.

Other people have bashed him for guessing plural words since plurals are never the correct word. He KNOWS plurals are never the answer but it's a chance to guess more letters to narrow down the possibilities.

Alan, I think you mentioned some time ago that you no longer play in hard mode but do you play AS IF you're still playing in hard mode? If not, then sometimes it would be better to play a word that doesn't contain known letters, to narrow it down more. In today's game, after confirming a green I and Y, you could have played a word like FOLDS next to see if the F, L or D would turn green or yellow. In today's game, that would have left you with just the correct answer for your fifth guess.

You have your opinion and preferred strategy which, you are entitled to and I respect, but in return please respect others' opinions equally rather than throwing emotive insults.
Also, while you are critical of others strategy you don't give us evidence of yours being superior - If you post a screenshot of your game, it would get you more support.

July 21 Starting word PIANO. Scored a P. Next guess SPECK. Won the game. I have a 96% win rate on the Wordle unlimited practice game, and I never used the same word to start each time (that is no fun, for one thing.). Also I sometimes guess a word I KNOW is incorrect if I need to verify placement of a difficult letter. Works for me.

Only one loss ever in over 1000 goes on the actual game - >99.9% win rate, always starting with the same word STARE....
That's what works for me, but happy for you, if you're happy with a different tactic :)

Absolutely true that not every word will contain any of the most common letters, but it is more common that the solution WILL than it won't - the clue is in the title!! It IS more common for the word to include A or E or T than X or Q or Z....

You have said several times that you can do better, so please do demonstrate - write your own column to share your results, but please without resorting to personal insults.

Come here for the hints. DON'T come here for smart strategy or logic, because blindly adhering to the 'common letter' idea is really dumb.

It's a rare day when this goober finishes a Wordle in less steps than I do.
