Using letters based on popularity is also dumb, because how'd that work out for you today?
Mix it up. Be as random as the game can be, because if you pigeonhole yourself with a single word because of flawed 'popularity' logic, eventually you'll fail. Just like this guy today.

Only one loss ever in over 1000 goes on the actual game - >99.9% win rate, always starting with the same word STARE....July 21 Starting word PIANO. Scored a P. Next guess SPECK. Won the game. I have a 96% win rate on the Wordle unlimited practice game, and I never used the same word to start each time (that is no fun, for one thing.). Also I sometimes guess a word I KNOW is incorrect if I need to verify placement of a difficult letter. Works for me.
