Tom Tom and a heated windscreen

I want to get a TomTom GPS system for my Ipaq 4150. I will probably go
for the Bluetooth version.

Does anyone have any experience of the received receiving satellites via
a heated windscreen (which has heating wires embedded in the glass). Do
you get enough signal from the satellites for it still to work?

First, should not be a significant problem if the wires are spaced as
they are on most rear windows.

Additionally, the receiver's are getting better... was astonished when I
tossed my Meridian under the front seat when I parked, then remembered
it several miles after I got back into the car, pulled it out and it had
been tracking under the seat... so... it will depend on the receiving
unit you have.

My Transit has a 'Quickclear' heated screen and it doesn't seem to make the
slightest difference to reception.

I used a handheld GPS system with an internal aerial (etrex) and it worked
through all but one front heated screen on the various cars I drove (Ford).
Certainly not a scientific test, but it's worth checking properly before
buying. Things may have changed, this was 3 to 6 years ago.

Your Front is heated ? Never seen that. It works thru my back one fine and
also thru the sunroof. The wires are spaced to far apart to mess up the
signal. Only people I know of that have problems is some of the windshield
tints, especially the gold looking metallic ones. But think that is illegal
in most places for the front windshield.

Most have no problems through heated front screens, I have tested them on a
Mondeo and it worked perfectly. The majority of problems occur with solar
coatings i.e. anti-glare windscreens commonly fitted to Citroen/Peugeot
vehicles although even then you can situate the receiver either behind the
rear-view mirror were there is normally a space clear of the coating or in
the lower corners of the screen.

Yes (Ford Focus). Very fine wires very closely spaced

Many thanks to you and all the others who replied. Looks hopeful.
