I have a Tom Tom and HP Ipaq 4150 bluetooth kit for connecting the two.

Is there a way for making the tom tom to find the quiest route rather than
the long winded way it normaly picks up?

I was looking to set it up so that it always finds the quiest way unless
alternative route is selected.

Is that possible?

You don't specify which version of TomTom you're using.

I've just checked my TomTom 2.24, and I'm surprised not to be able to find a
way to change route planning in the preferences screens.

Try this:
Use the A-B icon to plan your route. Change the option on the Type tab
between Shortest Route and Quickest Route, per your personal preference.

Shortest route will take longer to get there, because it picks the route
that covers least distance, but will use 30mph roads with lots of junctions.

Quickest route will usually add a few of miles onto your journey, because it
will take you a little out of your way to a motorway slip road (or other
fast road), where you can cruise along at 70mph. More miles, but shorter
time.

TomTom is good at recalculating en route, and the large buttons make it easy
to fine tune your route on the move. If you know better than TomTom, then
drive your preferred route for a bit, then let TomTom pick up where you're
not sure.

Edit the menus to move the alternative route button and the guidance on/off
button so you can reach them in less taps.

I would recommend asking in alt.satellite.gps or the forums in
www.pocketgps.co.uk

alt.satellite.gps is a good forum for Tom Tom questions.

BTW, if you go to
http://www.digitools.co.uk/ukpostcode.php there is a free download for full
UK Postcode access.
