We ordered this new model on line and set it up with great
anticipation. Unfortunately, the Motorola Cable Card provided through
our Cable company, Time Warner, does not work!!! We have been trying
to get a response from Toshiba since Nov. 22 with absolutely no
success. Does anyone have experience with the 46HM94 using a Motorola
cable card? Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Either of you willing to share your cable card experiences with a
reporter? It sounds like your run-in with cable companies are fairly
common. There aren't a lot of people using cable cards now since it's
still fairly new - your perspectives would be very valuable. Anyway, if
you're up for it, please reply or write to me at
ellen.sheng@dowjones.com. Thanks a bunch!

What, exactly, is your CableCard problem? Whatever it is, it may or may not
be the fault of Toshiba. We have a Sony and it took several days and
several Time-Warner techs and supervisors to get our CableCard up and
working properly. There are still occasional cable "drop-outs". The
primary problems in our case originated in the local Time-Warner office,
where their people did not know how to properly set up our account with
their digital cable computer.

Possible problem sources are the PCMCIA CableCard itself, your TV set,
Time-Warner & all the connections between all of the above. If you are
assigning blame to Toshiba just because Time-Warner told you that, then be
aware that A. Time-Warner (in my experience) typically lays blame elsewhere
as their first resort, no matter what the problem is and B. in general,
cable companies do not like CableCard and are luke-warm in their support, at
best. Also, C. (Again, in my experience) their employees are very poorly
trained, if trained at all, in installing and setting up CableCard
connections.
