toshiba boot problem

i got a toshiba satellite c55-a5032 at a yard sale when i turn it on it says checking media then says failed then says no bootable device--please restart system

Most likely the previous owner wiped the HDD and didn't reinstall the OS so there is no OS installed or they removed the hdd entirely. Is there a hdd detected in the bios.
