Toshiba satalite built in recovery question

Is the Toshiba satellite built in factory default recovery option as good as reformatting your computer with a disk?

Better, in that it won't wipe out your Operating System so Recovery is the way to go if you don't want to have to buy another copy of Windows.

It will remove all your personal files so it's worth backing them up to an external disk or some SD Cards.
