Toshiba Satellite A655-S5170 Backlight not lighting

Recently I replaced a screen on above computer for a friend. When I started it up after the replacement, the backlight did not turn on. I've tried re connecting the old screen and the backlight still does not work. The laptop had been backed over by a car which is why the screen was broken. I think something might have shorted out due to trauma. Any ideas?

Run over by a car? It needs more than just a new screen or backlight. It needs major surgery which makes repairing it way too expensive.
Give it a decent burial & buy a new one.
