Please do try to uninstall/reinstall the Card Reader driver that may help in solving the issue.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Card Reader driver.
- Once uninstalled, download and install the latest driver.

- Reboot the laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- After the reboot do test it again and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- If it's still not going to work and if it worked before please run System Restore.

- If System Restore will still not work, last option would be to reinstall Windows.
