Try using your laptop with just the adapter without the battery. Come back with what happened.
Actually, try taking out the battery, then unplug the computer's power supply for about a minute, put the battery back in, plug in the power and try it again (you may have to let windows do its scan disk or repair thing after that). It worked for me. Getting the wireless working again was a hassle but if your keyboard works fn+f8 should work otherwise you have to look for Toshiba flash cards. Do this if you are sure your ventilation/overheating problem is corrected.
