Toshiba Satellite laptop turns off immediately after turning on

I have a toshiba satellite p750 that shut down suddenly and now won't turn back on. I have removed the battery and ac adapter and held down the power button already. It only powers up when the battery is in place, but not when jusy the ac adapter is plugged in. There is also a slight ticking sound when it is plugged in. Does anyone know what the issue is?

Based from what you said about it's not booting up if only the AC adapter is connected and the battery is out it should be the AC adapter that is faulty. Do test it using a multi tester and see if it's supplying enough voltage to power the laptop. One more thing you can try is to use another AC adapter that has the same voltage and see if the same problem will persist after using another charger.
