My gfs laptop is starting to run really slowly, now that it's about 4 years old.

It only has an 80Gb HDD with XP installed.

Does anyone know if there is anything I need to know before I swap out the hard drive for a bigger one and reinstall Windows?

Will I be blocked by any default BIOS settings, or will I be fine just to tinker around with it?

You should be fine doing that. Just make sure you get the correct interface in regard to the new hard drive.

Solution
In addition to swapping out the HDD and re-installing XP, Have checked to make sure the Memory is maxed out (has it got 2 x 512 Megs installed, but can hold say 2 x 1 Gig of ram. Adding ram really can make a difference on older laptop performance.
