Question Toshiba Satellite Pro not charging

Hi, I have 2 Satellite pro c850's being used for home schooling duties, both bought second hand. One has had intermittent power issues - it occasionally switched off with no warning. It has now stopped charging completely. I have tried swapping the battery and charger from the good laptop but it still won't charge the battery even when powered down. Additionally if I remove the battery completely and plug it in it won't switch on, there seems to be no power getting through.
I've tried it with a new battery and the old one with no success.
Anything else I can try? Is there anything I can replace if I pull it apart?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've just tried that - no effect sadly.
I think the key thing is it won't power on when the adapter is plugged in but without a battery - my understanding is that laptops can work without a battery present - does this indicate something wrong with the internal power components? (It's a brand new charger that works fine on the other laptop)

The CMOS battery won't keep the machine from starting. There are problems with the internal power supply. Since you already swapped with known good battery and charger, there is nothing left externally that you can do. I suspect you need a new motherboard. If you were working inside when the problem started, there could be a connection issue or a damaged component. Did the problem occur just after you opened the machine?

That´s not true in general. In my case an ASUS X51R just wouldn´t power on because of an empty CMOS battery. But you are right that it should be an internal problem.

Check the charger jack of the laptop for broken pins or solder joints. You could try replacing the charger port:


With a heat gun you could try replacing this mosfet (couldn´t find it in english, sorry):

Thanks for your replies. I didn't actually open the laptop until after this issue presented, so I don't think I have caused the damage. I suspect the damage was there when I bought the laptop second hand which showed as the intermittent power failure and it's just got worse :-(
I'll take a look inside, but I suspect chances of fixing it are slim then, For now I am rotating batteries using the good laptop to charge them up.
