Toshiba x200 VS Gateway 6831fx

Hey :

If you have the choice to choose one of them , which one will you get ? Toshiba x200 (1.66, 3G,8700GT , 200HDD) or Gateway 6831( 1.66M , 3G ram , 250HDD, 8800GTS 512)??

Toshiba now manufactures the x205, which the same specs you listed (except 250 gigs of HDD space), so maybe it's just a typo. As for which one I would choose, I would probably get the Gateway. The graphics card is quite a bit more powerful, but then again, the cpu for both are rather weak, (they have only 2 mb of L2 cache). Also to note, the Toshiba weighs a hefty 9.3 pounds, while the Gateway weighs 8.3. If you're travelling a lot, that might matter.

Yea my concern is about the video card and the sound . Does 8800gts differs greatlly than the 8700gt ?
what about the sound ? which one is better .
I am trying to get the balance between the games and the intertainment .

As for the graphics card comparison, the 8700m GT gets maybe 4600 points on 3DMark06, while the 8800m GTS gets at least 7100 points on the same program. The 8800m series is much more powerful than the 8700m series.

The sound...well the Toshiba advertises having 4 speakers and a subwoofer built in, while the Gateway doesn't say anything about it, other than saying 2 channel. That seems to imply that there are 2 speakers built into the laptop. So if you're going for straight sound quality out of the laptop (which, no matter what, won't compare to discrete speakers or a good set of headphones), get the Toshiba. Personally, I would still get the Gateway, because it's easy to buy a set of speakers and hook it up. It's hard/impossible to upgrade your graphics card.

That sums everything up pretty well. The Gateway would be my choice as well. Just buy a set of $50 speakers and you should be happy with it.
