touchpad only works on battery

dell inspiron e1505 touch pad only works when on battery power...any ideas

Does it stops working when you plug the mains power, or it stops when you start up with mains power?
Try the following: touch a metal part of the laptop (e.g. VGA connector) with one hand, and try to operate the touchpad.

i did the touch thing and it did not work. it hasn't worked for a year (touchpad) i had a crash and lost all then when got it back but it won't work untill i unplug and run off battery, then it works great! when plugged it , it is there but barely.

i did the touch thing again and touched the right thing this time and my touch pad did work! what can i do to make it work all the time? any ideas?

I have similar problem with one of my laptops, when it is placed on old wood table. It could also happen with non-original power bricks. Try placing your laptop on your lap (it is called "laptop" for a reason), or just use a mouse.

oh my, it works when on my lap! i have used a mouse for the last year and like the touch pad so much more. i am amazed it works while on my lap, how so? and thank you!!!!!!
