"Many tracking cookies are benign and want only to use your information, along with the data of millions of other anonymous users, for marketing analysis."

That ain't benign. It's a massive invasion of our privacy, and turns us into things that companies use to produce revenue.

That's because servers that host websites already contain massive amounts of data. If the settings for every user who came to each website were stored on Web servers, many site servers would quickly run out of storage space. This is why the load is spread out among individual visitors.

If you can't get the most basic facts straight then don't both writing the article. Webservers have more than enough space to store the information that's in cookies.

A tracking cookie takes the regular cookie process one step further and sends a log of your online activities,

WRONG! It's the server (or data mining company) that puts together your activity from the list of sites that have seen the cookie. If your going to have some high-school dropout write the articles make sure at the very least they double check the facts against wikipedia.
