Well it depends on what kinds of files. If you are referring to apps, you would not be able to unless you are running "Marshmallow".

If you are just referring to photos, music, videos, etc., then you have a couple of options. You can move the files individually to the SD card or you can hook the phone up to a computer and move whole batches over to the card. The second one is often a better option due to the fact that you can create folders to separate your files and name them so you can locate them more easily. This also gives you the option to leave a copy of said files on the computer, just in case you lose the ones on the phone, or even lose the phone.
