Trouble with z506 speakers

Hey everyone. I am trying to get my logitech z506 speakers connected to my seiki 43 inch led tv. Currently I have the TV hooked up by hdmi to a laptop but I will upgrade that to a desktop very soon. The tv has 3 hdmi, 1 usb, 1 vga, and 1 3.5 audio. So far I have tried connecting the speakers by an rca to 3.5 mm jack but it hasn't worked at all. Is there any software or other physical component that I may be missing? I know a decent amount about computers but not to much about sound components.

Is that 3.5 mm audio jack you are trying to use an Input or an Output? You need to find an Output on the TV, and use whatever that output is to connect it to the speakers.

I believe it is an input. Is there some kind of converter that would allow me to use it as an output?

Nope, you can't use an Input to output sound from the TV. If the TV does not have any audio out, you need to replace the TV to use the speakers. Or hook up whatever you have connected to the TV to the speakers directly if that device has an audio out.
