So I'm looking at two notebooks. There is a pretty significant price difference, but there is also a kicker that makes this a two part question. I'm looking at a MSI GX60 1AC-021US VS. an Ibuypower Valkyrie cz-17 (slighly older version) I'll post the specs for both at the end.

Here is the kicker, the Valkyrie is used and I'd be buying directly from a guy on craigslist.

So in the community's opinion which computer is better for the money, and would you consider buying a computer from a guy on craigslist?

Valkyrie cz-17 $850 from a guy on craigslist:

8 months left on manufacturers warranty. He'll print me off a copy of his newegg invoice so I could send it in if there are issues.
17.3" FHD 1920x1080 (Non-Glare Type) Screen
8 Gigs Ram 1333
Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4g Processor
Nvidia GeForce GTX 670M/ 3GB GDDR5 Video
750GB 5400rpm HD
Keyboard Backlit
Windows 7 Home
No driver disks/windows disk
Rest is pretty much the same

VS

MSI GX60 1AC-021US $1100 Brand new

Full two year manufacturers warranty
15.6" Full HD LED-Backlit LCD Display (1920 x 1080)
AMD Quad-Core A10-Series 2.3GHz APU
8GB DDR3 SDRAM (4GB x 2) 1600
750GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
AMD Radeon HD 7970M Graphics with 2GB GDDR5
Windows 8
Should come with backup disks

I don't really care about the size difference, I slightly prefer larger, but I'm fine with 15.6. I don't care about processor that much (as long as it can do the trick) although I slightly prefer the i7. I care about video cards: the gtx670m vs 7970m is a huge difference in favor of the MSI. And I care about warranty.

So what do you guys think?

what are the prices?
if the laptop is used you can get a good deal on it. there is nothing wrong with buying stuff over creigslist...just make sure it works before you give him the money and leave..warranty is nice but a good deal is even better lol

Get the new one for a start second hand computers are always a problem. You never know how the hard drives have been
treated. Anyway the Radeon card is better. Is the GTX 670M 3GM RAM ? I thought it half that.
Also the new one has faster RAM and a 7200 rpm hard drive.

They have the 8970M GPU available on the GX60 on amazon. I would not recommend buying a used one. And I f you really want the MSI GX60 for a cheap price go to xoticpc.com and you can get $100 off the GX60 and you can cuztomize the hell out of it. Hope this helps :)

ok ill start this out with the cpu and the gpu...

i gave them benchmark tests and found a few online!

here are my results.

The GPU's:

the higher the better:

Valkyrie: nVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M = BM= [strike] 2980[/strike]
MSI: AMD Radeon HD 7970M = BM= 6670

now the CPU's

VaLKyrie: Intel Core i7-3630QM = 5750
MSI: There is no amd processor by that name:

here are the processors from the a series that are allowed in mobile versions:

Processor AMD A10-4600M = 2220
Processor AMD A10-5700 = 3250
Processor AMD A10-5750M = 2510
Processor AMD A10-5800K = 3590
Processor AMD A10-6800K = 3880
Processor AMD A10-7850K = 4120

so you get a better gpu with the msi but a better cpu with the valkyrie!!

if you are planning on gaming i would go for the MSI
because cpu performance wouldnt matter that much with gaming... the graphics cards that we have now a days take the full workload !

and if anything goes wrong you can get it fixed.... cragslist is great but honestly if somone is selling a gaming laptop that normally goes for 1400 for only 850 then somthing is wrong... and btw the GPU in the valkyrie sucks d for beer money... no joke... it will have problems giving you decent frame rates on league of legends on high settings... and that is terrible.

i say splerdge and get the new pc... get that added security and let that fool sell his hunk of junk on somone who wants to buy a breaking wothless pc....=)

the SUM

MSI hands down!!!!

better graphics(GPU)
better HDD 7200(faster read and write times)loading and video editing involse cpu!
better waranty and that really does matter... you want that trust me....
and comes with backup disks..

i have an i7 in all my pc'sm, but if i didnt have the best with the rest, it wouldnt even matter, go with the MSI!!!! hope this answerd your question =)
