Trying to output sound

I have a samsung tv with hdmi input, an hp slim pc with a displayport that I use as an htpc, and a sony surround sound system. Video streaming from pc to tv works great but I cant seem to get the sound from pc to stream out to the sound system. It only plays on the pc's built-in audio. This used to work on a logitech bass booster system we used to connect to the tv. On the pc's sound control panel, there's no option to set the tv as default playback, but this also didnt appear when connected to the logitech system so I dont know what to do next. I already did all the unplug/replug restart troubleshooting. Im wondering if the sony system purposely does not support inputs from a connected pc.

Any ideas please?

Just wanted to add that I use an hdmi to displayport cable, so I know audio passthrough is possible since it worked when we used the logitech speakers.

I got that part, but how is the Sony sound system connected? from the PC or TV? And how was your Logitech's wired?

What GPU are you using that only has Displayport?
