Exactly how many tuners does this animal have? I know there is two directv
tuners, but does it have two OTA tuners as well? Can you record a total of
two things concurrently or four - two dtv and two ota? Just a bit confused?

Think of it as two virtual tuners, each virtual tuner being able to record
DirecTV *or* OTA HDTV.

You can record two things at once, any combination of DirecTV and OTA HDTV.

It has four tuners, two OTA, and two DirecTV. It can only record two
streams at once though, so two OTA streams, one OTA and one DirecTV,
or two DirecTV streams.

Also, keep in mind the OTA tuners are digital only.

That is incorrect. You can indeed record OTA on the HR10-250. I do it
every night.

I haven't tried yet (only got mine last weekend) but unless the
documentation is supremely badly written it can't record two OTA streams
simultaneously, the docs say you can watch one and record the other but you
can't record both which sounds crazy.

WRONG.

It does just fine recording digital OTA programs.

Perhaps the wording is ambiguous, but you can use 2 tuners at once,
whether they are recording or displaying. So you can record two tuners,
or watch one and record the other (though you can't view both at the
same time, which wouldn't be a bad idea if they had a PIP feature).

The confusion may arise because they want to make sure people don't
expect to be able to record from two tuners and *view* a third, which
would reqire 3 simultaneous tuners.

Well, the docs aren't the best written, and if you have the HR10-250
configured for only one satellite tuner, then you also only get one OTA
tuner. Maybe that's what it was referring to?

Where in the heck did you get that piece of bad information?
We're talking about the HR10-250 here, not the other DirecTiVo units.
