i have a jensen jta-460 turntable and it has 1 red and 1 white plugs in the back only, when i plug it into my denon avr-1802 receiver that is about 10yrs old and has 1 red and 1 white phono plugs in back also. i chose the phono setting but it comes through distorted? when i plug am/fm, of dvd, tape ect. it is clear but not much amperage(power) it seems. why isnt it as simple as plugging the line out, again the only red/wht plugs on the back of he turntable to the red/wht phono on the receiver?

The audio outputs from the Jensen are line level and must be connected to any input BUT phono. When you do this you are overloading the input and getting distortion. Having to adjust the volume higher is not a problem. Different sources have different outputs.
