Tv and player hook up

So I bought an element tv and I have an older type dvd/vcr set now the wires are yellow, red, and white for the dvd/vcr player. My tv has the red, white, blue, green, and red slots. Now do I have to by a hdmi cord to hook up my tv and DVD player? Or do I need to buy a cord that has those colors on one side to hook up my tv.

does the dvd player have an hdmi out? If so I would get the cheapest hdmi you can find.

Edit: if you only have r/w/y out you can convert to hdmi:

Check your TV manual to see if you can use your Component Inputs (RGB/RW) to connect your DVD player's Composite outputs (Y/R/W).
