Tv semi recognises computer ,Home screen only

Hi,hdmi to hdmi, desktop to Sharp 46" tv...just the home screen appears on tv...no icons or anything...and computer monitor still operates...as normal...
...did the same thing at my folks place with identical computer and 46" Sony and worked right away,flawlessly,watching Utube etc... ...so dunno why mine doesn't work....

do you have more than one display hooked up? if so, perhaps you are running on extended mode. this would give you a screen with just wallpaper with no start bar, and no icons (typically the mouse disappears off the screen to the left and you can drag things over onto this screen from the left as well).

Hi SSDDX,...no just the monitor hooked up,but you described exactly what I have...no mouse or icons...and here's the funny thing...the monitor works as usual...live...
When I hooked up similar scenario at my folks setup...monitor went to wallpaper and tv screen took over as live computer screen...easy peasy...

i'm not quite getting what the different scenarios give you in terms of display.

tv only:
tv + monitor:
monitor only:
monitor only using the other output on your video card:

then you say about the tv taking over as live display over the monitor which is a multi-monitor thing. if you say it works on theirs then not on yours then based on what i'm reading you have both connected up at once.. not the just one you said in your first sentence.

sorry but i think you need to clarify things a bit and i'm not making sense of what you have said.
