TV Stand + 55 Inch HDTV Question

I bought my TV stand long ago. It's still very nice looking and very durable. However, the manufacturer's site says that it only supports TVs from 36" - 50", but says it supports up to 150 lb TVs. I am looking to get a new 55" LED TV.

Will this absolutely not fit my new TV (which I haven't picked out yet)? Or do they just use these numbers as a precautionary measure?

They a precautionary measure, and one that should be paid attention to. There have been reports of children that had these HDTV's fall onto them.

Thank you very much for that. I decided to go with a 50 inch anyways that weighs just 33 pounds. I have a little one running around, so I really appreciate you educating me on this subject.
