TV with only 1 HDMI

My TV is not a smart TV and only has one HDMI port which is used by the DirectV HDMI cable. I want to add a DVD player. Could I use a splitter for this? I'd have to put the DirectV connection into the splitter.

there are many HDMI hubs on ebay, some with auto switching, some with remotes etc. Very cheap.

[strike]You're not looking for a splitter (one output to many displays), but a switch (multiple outputs to one display). I was in a similar situation and purchased this 4x1 HDMI Switch. You could probably get by with a 2x1 or 3x1 switch to meet your needs.[/strike]
