TV wont recognize cable

I just bought a new TV and I cannot get it to recognize my cable. I bought an HDMI cord - what am I doing wrong?

Are you saying the cable box is not sending anything to the TV, are you on the right HDMI input? What exactly are you connecting to the TV? Did you check with your service provider what the issue may be with the cable box?
