[citation][nom]lukeeu[/nom]In Europe there haven't been any caps on broadband for years now. 10-15$/month still buys you only a few GB over cellular but over DSL or cable you'll get a few mbps with no cap. 120 mbps downloads costs ~40$ and are available only in cities[/citation]

Don't generalise. Belgian ISP's, for example, still require you to pay €80 a month for uncapped bandwith. I'm currently stuck with a 100GB cap.

On the other hand speeds are quite good (EURODOCSIS 3)

[citation][nom]hellwig[/nom]These obviously weren't Time Warner Cable subscribers in west texas, I'm not sure they could have downloaded a full Hi-Def pornographic movie using their pathetic bandwidth cap.[/citation]
Excuse me I live in SA, what bandwidth cap are you talking about. I dl my ass off through TWC.

First of all, TWC is correct and shouldn't give any information to a lawsuit of this sort, which to me has been done in a sloppy manor and I fear innocent people could be caught up in. Secondly, I've heard of the film mentioned and I personally can't believe this many people downloaded a porn movie as stupid as this Avatar-like film. If you look at the box, the porn actors are dressed like the characters in Avatar. I don't know about you, but when I saw Avatar, I didn't look at the green chick and say to myself "gee, I wish I could bang one of those..............."

lol, the guy is right, and it should be enough evidence for a court to force TWC to hand over the names.

bit torrent isn't the magical completely anonymous pirate heaven you all seem to think it is.

all any law man needs to do is fire up the torrent, they get the IP address of anyone who connects to them. if they have connected to them it is because they already have, or are in the process of, downloading the copyright infringing content. bit torrent even goes so far as to say weather the connected peer is a seed or not. there is NO other reason why you would come up on his list of peers.

the only points of contention would be that the owner of the internet connection (to which the IP address corresponds) may have nothing to do with the person actually using it to do the downloading. even on the computer where it was downloaded, one could argue it was downloaded by someone else, or even a virus.
