Well, one thing they have going for them is the large number of off-the-shelf
components (the Z80, 68000, SN76489 and YM2812). That leaves the custom
VDP, but unlike Jeri having to reverse-engineer the C64 VIC-II, I'm sure Sega
furnished them with specs to create something similar. Has anyone cracked
one of these open?
