But not facebook, which by the way, if you're in the military, is how you spend 90% of your day already.

[citation][nom]elcentral[/nom]if you use facebook 90% it might not be a good moral booster to block[/citation]

It is being blocked for humanitarian reasons and is only temporary. If a grunt can't live without Facebook then he should reconsider his commitments. But wait, grunts probably have no use for Facebook it is the REMF's that would be dependent on it, in which case it should be banned permanently.

Ever heard the term violation of a lawful order not to access specific sites... Its generally not a good thing to try and fine ways around Military orders, they though you in jail, take away rank and other things really quickly when you get caught.

That, and the fact that Military has their own type of court system that is a whole lot more restrictive and harder to defend against. Yeah, when it comes to a military order, is it an order or just a notification of blocked sites, either way probably best that, if one is in the military, to try and not circumvent the block.

Defend against? Hah, just pray that you never get convicted. Those in public prisons have no idea of how tough prison can be. Get convicted in a military court and sentenced to ten years of hard labor at Leavenworth and you will be out breaking rocks on the rock pile for 12 hours a day. It is not an easy ride in a military prison.

Don't bother. Modern, security 2.0 UTMs such as those by Palo Alto, will easily block sites, applications, and even detect and subvert attempts to use a proxy to defeat the firewall. Even using an IPsec or SSL VPN tunnel isn't much use since these UTMs can automatically perform what amounts to a MITM attack on your tunnel session and intercept traffic that is moving through the tunnel.
