[citation]the second world war could have f**ked us, but not a catholic government. even ireland has been able to deal with that (which is good cos what else can the irish deal with effectively?)[/citation]

A catholic government in Ireland brought in full democracy, ended religious discrimination for catholics and has managed to avoid mass starvation. More than a protestant british government ever did!

[citation][nom]phraun[/nom]I'm still waiting for a valid explanation as to why pictures and videos of naked people are so evil and damning. And no, "Because said so" isn't an acceptable answer.[/citation]

I second this. You can easily find various forms of violence on the net but, oh no, not a nipple or a pink bit!! That would be horrible!

Rubbish.

I'm not saying it is, but it's quite possibly a way for governments to censor what people view on the net. We don't want to allow people to find information like what wikileaks offers...

[citation][nom]mcforce0208[/nom]Guys its not as if the British Government will completely ban Porn, all you would have to do is just inform your ISP to allow these sites through. What on Earth is wrong with this? I mean seriously is it really that bad to NOT have porn allowed by default into your home?[/citation]

yeah - great idea, and then that list of people would be used by all the wrong authorities in the wrong way. I can see it now: CRB check - done and passed, credit check - done and passed, ISP Pron check - done and failed, sorry Sir we have decided against employing you due to you being a viewer of dubious material that we do not agree to.

Along with what others have said - its about time parents started to take more reponsibility for what their kids do, and not whinge when they can't due to ignorance. Why should I, a 46 year old male, have to suffer due to the inadequacies of some parents who can't be bothered to do their job properly. If you can't be responsible for your kids - keep your flipping legs closed!!!!

[citation][nom]rogerdodja[/nom]This is a good idea. If you want porn then ask for the unblock. Why is it an invasion of free speech/ free choice NOT to have porn by default. I don't want it, I don't want to stumble upon it nor do I want to be seduced by it.Why should I have to buy content filtering software or install a firewall because it is not an option straight from the ISP?There are smoking and drinking laws to protect the young why should there not be automatic protection from porn for the young and anyone else that wants it[/citation]

-------
why should I have to contact my ISP do view such sites just cause you cannot be bothered to use the browser options properly!!!

[citation][nom]Morstern[/nom]Wow so many people lost in the now and no clue of the past. Porn is not a holy grail given to the people. Nor is it a beacon that has lead the western world to its greatness over the last 1000 years. For the states this law is like putting a porn mag behind the "Must be over 18” sign. You can still get it, your kids just can't see it.I would still like to see the .xxx domain so it can just be filtered that way. Porn for those who want it and no decadence for people who wish to live without it.[/citation]

you obviously think kids are not bright enough to find a way round this??

kids get hold of porn mags despite them only being sold to over 18's - they get hold of cigarettes despite them only being sold to over 16's, they get hold of booze despite it being sold to those over 18

Do we really need governments stepping in and trying to control this? For all the idiots that are too stupid to figure out how to work filtering there is the always simple solution to fix the "terrible" porn problem.

.xxx

Everything porn related switches to the .xxx domain and is not allowed on any other domain. That leaves 1 simple filtering rule to setup for your little brats.

Is it really that hard to figure out people?

Why would they want to get rid of the internet? Without pron, there is no real reason to have the Web in the first place.

This could be done more easily than you imagine. In the US, we have learned how to make legal activities impossible. We just raise the price until you can't afford it anymore. The offensive material would become part of "premium services." After that there is "maximum services," then "gold level services" -- the price just keeps going up.

Apple already has a choke-hold in content. Still, people can't get enough Apple products. Marketing sees to this. Today, the US will authorize "tiered service levels" for wireless. It is a matter of time till it creeps over into ordinary not-wireless service.

Don't kid yourself. Done properly this could cost the gov nothing, be a money-maker for the Corporation, and the customers would be standing in line for more.

Not surprising, peoples freedom have been suffering for the last decade in the name of *insert whatever to make it sound better*.

They wouldn't even be satisfied even when everyone have a EAN code on the arms and a transponder implanted in the neck (excluding the politicians - for seucrity reasons!).

We are getting there - one freedom violation at a time!

"The internet doesn't self-regulate" yet IE comes with Content Adviser that checks out sites biased on the content the site provides. What's that? Oh yeah self-regulation. Here's a cheaper solution write a law forcing parents who purchase internet access to sign up for a 2 hour course on internet "safety" the parents can pay a small amount (in the US this would be like $10/family) to keep the cost in line. And bada bing parent's can't claim ignorance and will at least have the knowledge base to protect their kids.

That's the problem with Politicians in charge who would not know you to sent an email without their secretary. They propose things that simply can not be done.
Banning Porn, Drugs, Cigarettes, Alcohol, Gambling or Kickbacks for Politicians... yeah, good luck with that. Don't get me wrong, a 9 year old should not be watching "Debby does London"; but you can not simply forbid or filter it. Parental supervision and education would go a long way !
Ah well, got to get back to Debby's website now :)

This law sadly will go through, just like the digital rights bill went through without full consultation and in a semi illegal way, even though some parliamentarians were against it.

It is the first step into net control, net neutrality is a thing of the past, and this is not just happening here, it is happening in America too, it is just being hidden at the moment, do you really think the American government is making such a fuss about Wikileaks because of the boring confidential files were released? Nope, it is just a stepping stone to managed web access.

In both the UK and the USA your rights have been eroded, you can be arrested, locked up, refused legal representation, rendered to another country for torture. If you question any policies or the governments stripping down your rights, they scream traitor at you and start a witch hunt. The bill of rights, and the US constitution are now no more than museum pieces, quaint ideas from a bygone age.

It will get worse before it gets better too, the US economy is about to collapse, within a year it will lose its status as the worlds trading currency, it has already be devalued by 8%, that is 8% of the value of anyone hold US dollars as a reserve country, the rest of the world is now ditching the $, when this happens the US will fall into a depression that make the 30's look like an dream holiday, the aftershock will destroy the UK economy also, as well as dragging down many EU and south American economies with it/ And it gets worse still, this will force the US and the UK to abandon Iraq & Afghanistan, the militant Muslims will point to god and say he is behind them in defeating the infidel and encourage them to attack more and more

Those once most hated enemies the Russians and the Chinese will be all that stand between us and Muslim domination and we will be praying for them to save us. For too long we have stood by while corrupt and morally bankrupt politicians have destroyed the fabric of our lives, now it really is too late

People wonder about 2012, the steps are already here, happening, you just have to open your eyes and look, read round on the internet while you have the chance, because you wont have that chance for much longer, the truth is out there, FIND IT....

so no porn, no guns, no toothpaste, and a dozen cameras on every street corner in london. arent they our allies? why the hell would we wanna be friends with these assholes? and the queen technically still has all the power. she allows parliament and the PM to do their jobs. The bs storyline in that one rowan atkinson movie was right. the queen has the right to take any land the british gvmt owns and use it as she sees fit. they just dont cause it would cause a shitstorm. im hoping she dissolves the monarchy and doesnt allow charles to ever be king. the country would love her for it. they already get pissed they have to pay for the royal lifestyle.

Yes, porn should be erradicated from the internets.

Children die all over the world because of people masturbating to those filthy videos.
