and yet another unlocking of cores, this time the PII X2 550 3.1GHz dual core 2 x 512KB L2 cache, 6MB L3 cache.

First pic show it as stock. You can see the 2 x L1, 2 x L2 and 2 cores shown.

Next is 3DMark06 with four cores running at 3.4GHz (220x15.5) showing 4 x L1, 4 x L2, 4 cores, but L3 remains unchanged.

Looks promising...

How about under Win7/Vista x64 environment? That determines whether they're unlock-worthy or not.

Installing another drive with Vista Business 64-bit now. It is running as 4 cores @ 3.4GHz during the os install. It may take about an hour to have the benchmark results.

Ok, did that, but had to watch Mythbusters. Tomorrow's another day.

.....but is it 24 hour prime 95 stable.....or does it just boot windows

In all fairness, I haven't had 24 hours to run the test. I'm posting this as it's getting done.

However, you make a good point. It needs more testing. It's done a 2hr test in WinXP 32-bit, so I cancelled that because Wuzy asked for some results from Vista or Windows 7 64-bit.

Under XP it's run Prime95 2hrs, 3DMark06 and PCMark05. Now it has Vista x64 on it and I'll continue with the tests.

The stock cooler is not much good with 4-cores at 3.4GHz, so I'm using one from a PII X4 940 and this is much better.

I'll do the 24 hours test once the other benchmarks under 64-bit are out of the way.

Asrock AOD7990GX/128M, but also with the A780GM-LE-128M. The other Asrock boards in between these two models are soon to arrive at the workshop, so we'll see what happens there.

Prime95 for 2 hours, everything ok. I had to shut down and move it to make room for another build. I'll try a longer run when there's free bench space.

The 64-bit driver is giving me some grief for gaming benchmarks. I'll have to sort that out.
