unlock q6600 multiplier

is there anyway to unlock the multipler on the q6600 so you can increase it above 9?

its called an extreme - only extreme chips have multipliers that go up above the stock setting

in theory chip makers sort the chips "higher bin" and lock the multipliers on the better chips higher.

this has turned into a pure marketing system - almost. since the e6600 and x6800 are basically the same speed and performance. the lower end chips like the E series are the "lower bin" parts

some mobos will allow you to go down but not all with normal chips

Yestarday i recived a faulty Q6600 with G0 stepping, when i say faulty, it left the factory with it's multiplyer unlocked =D

Currently running it at 3.9 with stock and will shortly be reciving my new water cooling system. Wonder how far i can push this!

Has anyone else incounterted this anomaly as it may have been a whole batch!

how about you give us the serial and production number from your CPU so maybe we can trace one from the same batch and hope it's unlocked

Curious... can you give a CPU-Z shot, showing you can change it to x10?

I hope your not confusing this with speedstep (disabled) to where the mulitplier can be changed lower from its stock multi..

No, There's not. But also not a strong need. Even a simply bump to a 400FSB will put the CPU at 3.6Ghz which is it's max short of extreme cooling measures. Most folks don't even get that for regular use.

Kinda gets me into the mood to do at least the pin mod on my E4400 to change the FSB rating to 1066 from 800...

But then I was at radio shack, and they didn't have the conductive pen circuit writer..

Kinda scared to track down the stuff to repair the rear defrogger, since I assume that is more of a permanent thing to where if I mess up.. its going to stay messed up... :lol:

My E4400 is pin modded, its quite easy and its not permenant... It comes off with bit of ISP.

Really? 3.9 GHz on stock cooling?

What voltage did you need to get it stable? Is it a 24/7 OC or just a Benchmark OC? How are the temps under Prime95 100% on all cores load?

Runs at 47 degress and was only a temp over clock for the multiplyer test. Will be getting my serious cooling setup on it at the end of the week (if i decide to keep it).

Off home now so will post up results when i get back for you all to cream and dream over 😛

May end up selling it any way.

Intel binning a QX as a regular q6600? Stranger things have happened...

Sapphire sent me an x1650XT instead of the x1650PRO I ordered.

I wanted to send it back, the damned thing fried my 350W PSU and didn't have a temperture sensor to boot.

But alas 3.9 Ghz quad core on stock? Your poor procy will have a short life expectancy given the vcore you had to feed it to get that high and the extreme temperatures.

Well... I need to be more convinced myself, that is if the multi is unlocked. That's where I'm more interested in.

We all should know the default is 9 of course:

266x9=2394 or 2.4ghz

So if his multiplier can go to 10 and higher.. I'd be shocked... :lol:

I must agree, 3.9 ghz is quite high for Q6600.. But logically, that could be achievable if you simply be able to change the multi higher, rather then push the FSB more.. seems it would be very flexiable.

i run all q6600 at 3.8-3.8 when i burn them in bios before i build the systems - and i use the stock coole - got use them something.

but... they run around 70c or slightly lower with 2 12cm fans

my point is the locked chips run that fast.

the 9 multiplier is really optimum anyways
