If something like this was true, I could very well see the government stepping in for very good reason.

Such a site could very easily get abused by others who could easily sabotage others by leaving false and extremely damaging information with no means for other parties to have the damaging information removed.

Hell, even with Credit Report Agencies, the government requires controls which allow you to have false information removed when ever possible.

currently making a forum... it is to troll the site =D only you only request good things about yourself and the whole site agrees... if you are not on my forum you will be talked bad about... this works well =D

I smell a privacy lawsuit if someone posts something they shouldn't.

Oh well, it was time to pull out of myspace and facebook and everything anyway...

IF this is real, you need to be able to at least delete your profile. Its one thing to not allow cherry picking of reviews, but to not allow your profile to be removed is stepping over the line. Also, from reading a few other articles on this site, it sounds like you have to opt in to allow people to write reviews about you.

Have the creators of this site ever heard of the term slander? It's illegal to do and I'm sure there will be way too much of that on this site. Sorry, Unvarnished, you're a terrible idea.

[citation][nom]hellwig[/nom]You live in a dream world. True, most people don't give wikipedia a grain of salt, but employers use anything and everything to determine whether or not to hire someone (they'd use Wikipedia if it had an article about you). Employers here in the U.S. even use your CREDIT RATING for chrissake. I mean, you have no money, your credit is going to reflect that, you try to find a job (to get more money), and someone won't hire you because your poor credit means you are a risk to steal from them (which is total B.S.).[/citation]

They check your credit because your credit is a record of your fulfilling promises. When you sign a contract with a bank or a credit card company you are promising to repay them. If you blow them off and decide not to pay you are breaking the promise and as a result your credit score (think of it as a 'Trustworthiness Meter') goes down. Some people are perpetual liars/scammers and their credit score reflects it. People who screw up their credit inadvertantly can repair the damage -but over time. Trust/credit is a valuable commodity and shouldn't be something that changes exponentially in short periods of time. Based on your comment your probably some idiot who blew their credit without thinking and now blames the system for holding them accountable.

[citation][nom]bv90andy[/nom]I find this stupid because the Web is full of 12-99 year old trolls with facebooks full of friends who can write stupid stuff about anybody.[/citation]

You could of just shorten that and just said "This is stupid because the web is full of trolls."

You need to remember also,

How are you going to make sure that the information posted in a profile is actually going to be about the person that it was intended to be about and not someone else who has the same name in real life, or the same username online, or possibly lives in the same town, city or state, maybe went to the same school or worked at the same place?

It'd be very easy for mix ups to occur.

Just a few years ago, a local pharmacy mixed up my wife's prescription with someone else' prescription cause the other person who lives locally has the exact same first, middle and last name. My wife was the one who caught the mistake when she looked at the label.

As for me, even though this area is more country than it is city, last time I checked, there were over 5 or more people in the local area with the same name as me and that was a few years back. I've tried googling my name and all I come up with is well known doctors, lawyers and others that are well off.

lol this is fail... big time... all the lawsuits oh boy before they get any popular i bet they will do bankrupt cause of lawsuits if not forced to change policies due to rights and privacy issues...

the world is not as peachy as they would like to think... people will go and make up false stories that are believable and you have no say just for kicks and laughs.... imagine people being jealous or your coworkers... this is really an insane idea in an imperfect world... in a perfect world it works fine

The problem here is that a bad credit rating does not necessarily reflect your trustworthiness / honesty. Maybe you have a low rating because you haven't made any large purchases on credit and don't have a credit card. Maybe you were in a car accident and were injured to the point of not being able to work and you lost your house.

There are plenty of reasons for a low credit score that may be justifiable from a bank/lending standpoint that have no relation to how honest and trustworthy you are as a person.

I for one would not allow a potential employer to run a credit check on me and I have pretty good credit (especially for my age). I recently was looking to rent a new apartment and a lot of landlords are asking for my banking information / credit card number so they can run a credit check on me. I've refused to provide it every time. I just don't feel comfortable handing my information over to complete strangers just because they ask for it.

Oh yeah, the lawyers will have a field day with this site. Violation of privacy, any feedback good or bad could end up in court. The moment someone is turned a job down because of said site it's going to end up in court for a LOT of money. It will be bankrupt before it takes off.

Then again, it sounds like it may not be run out of the states so maybe it will work just fine if the legal system can't reach it. Personally I don't care because the site will quickly become pointless and no respectable employer would search through it.

Even if it's run outside of the states, the law would still have it's way with the site because it'll become such an issue that it'll become a national issue.

That means that heads of government, not just the USA, but other countries including what ever country the site is based in will take notice and you can be sure that something would be done if it gets to the national level as something like this stand to do what with the current job market. The News Media would be sure to bring it to their attention if need be.

I can just see it now, An Emergency United Nations assembly meeting all because of one lousy website and because of the seriousness of the job market world wide at this time.

I would not want to be the owner of that site right about now.

That is to say, if all this doesn't turn out to be an April fools joke. :)

This is wrong on so many levels. The website will not last long. Seriously, who is going to take the time to create a profile for you, someone has something good to say or someone who has something bad to say?

How can you confirm the person you are review is the same person? So many people have the same name and even live in the same city.

In the business world, it is very dangerous to bad mouth employees that have been fired, even if they are scumbags. This website will be a liability for the company starting it and any business that accesses it to check on a potential employee.

People complain about the government causing invasion of privacy. This is 100 times worse. The government could listen to all my cell phone calls and monitor my emaials for all I care (at least they don't make it public). For a company to put up a site like this is absolutely horrible. It is nothing but trouble.

My dad used to tell me growing up "if you don't have anything nice to say about someone than dont say it". Unfortunately today, it is totally the opposite with the way people are.

This thing about employers looking up information on the net is also rediculous. I can't imagine that if you have all great things written about you on the web that it will get you a promotion, so all it can do is get you fired. Thats why I don't put that much info on facebook or talk on the wall etc.

There is going to be so many teen girls jealous of a girl who took their guy and setting up profiles and saying "betty smith is a ho", or "peggie sue screwed the whole football team during homecomming".

Yeah, no good can come from this.

It's easy to see the negatives to this from a legal stand point. It is my understanding slander cases are already popping up in lieu of internet related activities and this will most certainly follow the same path.
