I went here:

http://www.casacurtis.com/rtvupgrade/

where he says this: "It is important to not unplug these cables, as
I've read everywhere that this will cause horrible things to happen to
your ReplayTV. "

WTF? This is a computer. It's powered off. What's he talking about?

Take off your silk panties, run off the cat and ground yourself before you
handle electronics. Buy a wrist strap and an anti-static pad.

.... or move to someplace where the relative humidity is 80+ all the time.

It is possible that once unplugged they are not all that easy to plug
back in. Or that doing so damages a fragile connection.

Also.. The replay is never off unless it's unplugged, it is an always on
computer, PARTS of it can be turned off (The re-play part) but the
recorder runs 24x7 in normal operation
