upgrade gateway xp laptop

does the motherboard have to be replaced on the nx570x laptop to be able to upgrade the memory and upgrade it to windows 7???

No, you can't swap the motherboard in the laptop. It is just older and does not have Win 7 drivers from Gateway. You may still be able to install it but some things may not work properly till you find drivers for the hardware from other sources like the chipset vendor or WiFi card vendor, and some things may never work right. Best thing is to get a newer laptop if you want to run a more secure OS. XP right now is too insecure to be used online.
