upgrade my Cpu

Hello Guys,
Anyway lately i was trying to upgrade my pretty old Hp pc . (not for gaming just for work ^^)
so i made some changes and it went pretty good i've changed the Ram , same for graphic card and now i've decided to work on Cpu (change it). My pc:
windows xp pro...
2 go Ram ddr1
nvidea geforce 4 Mx 4000
(here is the probleme) Cpu: pentium 4 3.00Mhz
so here is my question can i upgrade my cpu to intel core 2 duo ?(if it's compatible with my motherboard) or whatever better then pentium 4. Cause i am having trouble with video in browser... they lag a lot...
my motherboard is HEWLETT-PACKARD model 085Ch

cannot upgrade the cpu to dual core as you have an incompatabile socket for a dual core. http/www.findlaptopdriver.com/hp-085ch-specs/
get a new computer or upgrade the motherboard, ram, cpu & video card to somewhat modern standard.
