Upgrading CPU in Dell Latitude D600

Hello,

I currently posess a Dell Latitude D600 notebook with 1.4ghz CPU, so
far I was pretty happy with the performance, but one of my recent
projects asks for as much CPU power on the go as possible (Math
calculations).

I am not too "hot" about selling my D600 and thus was wondering if it
would be theoreticaly possible to stick a "Dothan" cpu into "Banias"
D600 Notebook. In particular i had my eye on the 745 (1.8ghz) or maybe
even 755 model (2ghz) CPUs. They are pretty easy to find on Ebay.

I know that Dell sells D600 with 745 (1.8ghz) Dothans today, and I can
imagine that Dell did not do any major changes to the D600 mobo /
cooling system to adapt 745.

Anyone ever tried such upgrade?

According to the service manual (Dell WWWebsite, look for manuals,
mine is sm_en2.exe), the CPU is in a screwdriver-cammed ZIF socket, so
it ought to be swappable. Dunno if the 30% higher CPU core frequency
will do you any good with a 400MHz FSB, but it looks like it ought to
work...
