Buy a new laptop.

Unless, by "upgrade", you mean "increase". Most laptops have two memory sockets. So to increase the memory, you need to buy larger sodimm's (that's the form factor for laptop memory.

You can go to 4 GB's pretty easily. 8 GB in a laptop gets pretty expensive because 4 GB sodimms are expensive.
