Namstey,
whenever i try to upgrade my windows, my pc shows "The computer started using the windows installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer and so on ...."
i just wanna know the reason behind this message, what is the meaning of this ???

yes. actually i want to reset my pc. but it says some files r missing and required partition is unavailable or device not connected and i don't have much time to repair it. so i just bought 8.1 from a friends and tried to upgrade + format it..

OK, so you're not 'upgrading', but rather just a full reinstall.

Put the DVD in, boot from it, and run the install. If it is a valid Win 8.1 install disk, I see no reason why that should not work.

Right.
You said "yes. actually i want to reset my pc. "

A custom install, you do directly from the DVD.
An upgrade install, you start from within a running Windows 8 instance.

OK, hang on. You can't use your friends Win 8.1 license on your machine at the same time he is also using that same license.
'already activated'? There is no legal Windows 8.1 that is 'already activated'. Activation only happens after you install it.

Buy your own legal copy.

I would guess that it is the bogus install media you have.

You are currently on Win 8, right? Why can't you upgrade to 8.1 through the MS Store?
