USB 3.0 not working properly

I recently bought a new laptop, Lenovo U310, and when I tried using the two USB 3.0 ports on the left side of the laptop, both of them don't seem to be working. I tried the USB 2.0 port on the right side of the laptop and it opens my flash drives just fine. I tried going into the BIOS with a flash drive inserted in the 2.0 port and the flash drive was identified in the boot options; however, when I tried to do the same for both of the 3.0 ports, the flash drive doesn't show up. Does this mean that the USB 3.0 ports are dead? Is there a way to check if they are truly dead. I just want to make sure before I return the laptop as I have already installed most of the programs that use for school. Is it possible that the USB ports are disabled? Is that even possible?

How do I check if they are installed? I tried checking for hardware changes on the device manager and everything seems to be fine. I tried to look for drivers on the Lenovo website but all of the drivers are for windows 7; however, my laptop came with windows 8. When I tried installing the win 7 driver, I just got an error telling me that there were compatibility issues with the win 7 driver. I'm running out of ideas here.
