Question USB C port cannot detect External Hard Drive but can detect USB Device, connected using an adapter

Hi there,

So until recently, I had an issue with my laptop's USB C port where the laptop can't detect an External Hard Drive connected to the port through an Adapter. Confusingly, it can detect a pen drive when plugged in, does it have something to do with the port itself or could it possibly be a Windows issue?

My laptop's model is Asus X456URK

Using another USB ports on the laptop finds the drive detected and fully usable.
