USB-C to HDMI not displaying for ASUS FX553VD

I recently purchased an ASUS FX553VD and decided I would simply use the laptop as my second screen, after some reading I discovered that I could use a USB-C/HDMI cable to connect my second monitor. Great stuff, I went out and purchased a USB-C/HDMI Cable, plugged it in and I'm not achieving anything. The monitor states no input, and the laptop isn't registering anything being plugged in.

Googling has told me that it may be an issue due to the USB-C not having Thunderbolt 3? But I've read conflicting information which also states Thunderbolt 3 is only required for 4k?

Sorry I must not have explained myself properly - I'm using the HDMI port as an output to 1 monitor, and would like to use the USB-C port as a second output and run another monitor (Leaving my laptop closed, to the side, with 2 monitors set up). I have a USB-C to HDMI cable to connect to the second monitor, but the laptop isn't detecting a connection via the USB-C port.

Here's the thing....

Laptops can only send video output to 1 external monitor. That is because the integrated graphics core / dedicated graphics chip can only send two video signals; one to the laptop's screen and one to an external monitor. If the laptop has a displayport, then a second external monitor can be attached to the laptop because the displayport has it's own video processor (known as a RAMDAC) to send out a video signal.

USB ports (all of them) and HDMI ports do not have a video processor. They must rely on the integrated graphics core / dedicated graphics chip to send a video signal to an external monitor. If you were to disconnect the 1st monitor, then using the USB-C to HDMI cable to connect to the other monitor, then it should work.

You are going to have to buy a video converter adapter to be able to use a 2nd external monitor. Below is an example. Note that while it will allow you to attach two monitors to it (HDMI / VGA), the output on both monitors will be the same (mirror).
