USB mic doesn't work if plugged in after game launch?

I don't always use my headset (Gamecon 780) but if people in a match are using mics I like to plug mine into too. Unfortunately only the earphone part works and not the mic; I always have to plug them in BEFORE launching the game (any game) for the microphone to work and it's very annoying. Any idea why?

Because at the start of a game, it probably looks for all the available hardware, mics, joystick, number of monitors, etc, and then setups the game accordingly. By not having the mic plugged into, and with a USB headset, it's actually a full USB soundcard, it doesn't detect that device, and thus, doesn't setup anything for it.

But how come the headphones work though? It switches from my speakers to headphones right away even when I plug them in after the game launches.
