Use Friends Copy Of Vista With My Serial Key?

I have an HP dv9000 Entertainment notebook and it does not come with a DVD containing the Vista OS. The OS is on a partition along with all the other crap-ware.

My questions are this - could I use a friends DVD copy of Windows Vista along with my serial key for the laptop and do a reinstall? If so, do you think there are certain drivers specifically on the notebook partition I would also need?

I just would like to have a fresh install without all the other crap-ware. I also do not want to reinstall over the recovery partition if there are drivers I'll need for the installation.

Depends on what flavor of Vista disk your friend has. The key you have is for an OEM version of Vista. If his is for example retail or upgrade your key won't work.
