I have a problem. My Yamaha receiver only supports 4k @30hz and that is not cool when I have a 55" UHD Tv. So lately I have been using the S/PDIF to route the sound. Works great for all but gaming. PCM stereo only... Cant seem to change it anywhere. And I know the surround sound worked just fine when I used my old 1080p Tv and routed both video and audio via the receiver.
So a thought hit me, whet if I get a HDMI splitter that can handle 4k @60hz, that way I can run one cable straight to the Tv and the other one to the receiver as nothing other than a sound cable. Do you guys see any reason why this would not work? Would I be better off getting a soundcard that sports Dolby Digital? Feel like the HDMI route is the safer one here.
